Greetings! My name is Alex, and I've created this interactive resume, timeline, and blog as an experiment in presenting who I am (professionally) to the world.
In May 2013, I began a PhD program in Complex Systems at Indiana University Bloomington. I also founded Bloomington Tutors, a group of graduate students and professionals who provide academic support for undergraduate courses at IU and Ivy Tech.
Prior to this, I completed a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, where I built energy consumption models for sustainable manufacturing. In 2006 I completed a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, also at the University of Maryland, College Park.
When I'm not going to class, teaching, or doing research, I enjoy camping and packing way too much gear (see photo at the right). I also do quite a bit of cooking, and I'm developing a theory that every dish is some form of pizza. A bowl of pho for example, is a pizza with multiple cylindrical, slippery crusts, a thin, watery sauce, and a large number of toppings.
